Luxury Getaways in Australia

If winter tends to get you down, then one great way to banish the blues is to take a holiday.

The beauty of our country is that not only do we have plenty of locations where it can still be warm in the winter, there are plenty of options for luxury getaways where even if the weather isn’t as warm as we might like it to be we can still have an amazing winter break.

Let’s take a look at our hand-picked recommendations of the best luxury getaways across Australia.

Longitude 131°, Northern Territory

Longitude 131°, Northern Territory

It’s said that every Australian should visit Uluru at least once in their lifetime.

If you’re going to do it this winter, then you might as well do it by staying at one of the best luxury resorts in all of Australia, let alone in the Northern Territory.

Longitude 131° is one of the most iconic places to stay for anyone visiting Uluru, offering a straight line view of the attraction itself. The resort is found just outside the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and is close to the charming NT town of Yulara.

A stay at Longitude 131° is pricy but well worth it! Couples will pay $3,000 per person, per night, for a Dune Pavilion, although the resort’s luxury tents offer a cheaper option at $1,600 per person, per night (Longitude 131, June 2019).

If you’re planning to tick Uluru off your bucket list this winter, this is the place to stay!

Whitsunday Islands, Queensland

Whitsunday Islands, Queensland

The Whitsunday Islands offer the opportunity to take whatever type of break you want, which is why we’ve added this location as a collective rather than picking out one of the 74 islands as a specific destination.

Whether you want to mingle with tourists, enjoy a range of activities and pursuits on land and along the islands’ beaches, or take a boat trip out a little further into the Pacific, the Whitsundays have something for everyone. Oh, and if you simply want somewhere quiet, a beachfront chalet with your own private section of beach is an option, too.

What a stay at the Whitsunday Islands will cost you depends largely on where you stay and what you plan to do.

The Daydream Island four-star hotel is usually around $450 per night, while the Beach Club on the busy and popular Hamilton Island will be closer to $750 per night (Google Travel, June 2019).

Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef Safari Camp, Western Australia

When Western Australia is mentioned to many non-Australians (and indeed to many Australians actually!), the first and only thought is of Perth.

If you know where to discover the secrets of Western Australia, you will be well rewarded, and while the Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef Safari Camp isn’t what we’d necessarily call a huge secret, it’s remote enough for it to be somewhere that isn’t always so busy that it’s going to spoil your enjoyment.

Found within the Cape Range National Park, Sal Salis is a stunning destination for a break. Dubbed the place “where the outback meets the reef”, the safari camp offers a range of tents offering incredible views out across the Indian Ocean.

Cape Range offers some sensational landscape, giving you everything you could want from a vacation destination on your doorstep, while the beautiful town of Exmouth is nearby, and the whole of the North West Cape is within easy reach if you want to see more of the coastline and the area in general.

The real kicker if you want to go here is that it closes during the summer, so it’s a break in the winter or nothing!

A stay at the Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef Safari Camp will cost a couple $900 per person, per night, to stay in one of the resort’s Wilderness Tents (Sal Salis, June 2019)

Drift House, Port Fairy, Victoria

Drift House, Port Fairy, Victoria

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most iconic stretches of road, and a massively popular drive for Australians as well as tourists.

While the Great Ocean Road is littered with great places to see and to stay at, if you’re taking the drive from East to West then it’s definitely worth continuing a little further into Port Fairy, where you’ll find the stunning Drift House.

Port Fairy might not be one of the most popular places in Victoria , but it’s fair to say that Drift House in Port Fairy is one of the jewels in its crown.

Offering six suites, Drift House is close to both the beach and the city centre, where you’ll find everything from great shops to amazing restaurants at odds with Port Fairy only being a relatively small place itself.

The best thing about Drift House is that the owners offer specific winter escape packages. At the time of writing you could stay for just $295 per night when booking three or more nights (Drift House, June 2019). Take in the Great Ocean Road and then stay here and visit Port Fairy as an added trip within a trip right at the end!

Amarna Luxury Beach Resort, New South Wales

Beach of New South Wales

The beauty of Nelson Bay, where you’ll find the Amarna Luxury Beach Resort, is that it’s far enough away from Newcastle to feel like you’re really away from it all, but close to enough to the city as well as other fun attractions that if you want to venture elsewhere, you can do.

If your mission during your winter trip is to get away from it all and not venture too far, then Nelson Bay and the wider Port Stephens area has everything you need. The beach is on the doorstep, the shops are just a few minutes away, while the entire Port Stephens coastline is easily accessible by car depending on which beaches you want to visit. The Tomaree National Park is close by, too, while a short boat ride to Shark Island, featuring Shark Bay and the famous Port Stephens lighthouse, is always worth it.

A stay at the Amarna Luxury Beach Resort will cost from $518 per night (, June 2019).
